This was a six week residency combining personal work and workshops.
Personal Work
I spent my time exploring the resonant frequencies of a beautiful stairwell, using a signal generator from the physics department, and teaching myself how to build an amplifier circuit. I then built a strange, flat, cork-edged housing for it, which I then placed glass and cans over to filter the sounds. I also recorded rain falling onto old photography studio lampshades.
Workshops
I taught 30 students how to make their own contact mic, which they then used in a guided group performance exploring various sources of sound. The whole performance was a continuous 30 minute piece, with one group coming up after the previous group and joining in with the live loops I made.
